In response to all of the questions about our kick-offs and why we didn't just always kick it out of the end zone. I just got back home after going to the game, and the wind was definitely strong enough to effect the kicking game. When we had the wind (1st and 4th qtrs), the kicks were out of the end zone (except for the 15 yrd penalty).
Against the wind I don't think Seibert could kick it out of the end zone, and Turpin scared them enough to not want to kick it to him again. They really need to come up with a better plan, though. Their deep onside caused a fair catch the first time, but then TCU correctly decided to let their returners return those after that. And the one attempt at a squib down the middle looked like the kick in last year's Rose Bowl.
Similarly the punts against the wind in the 2nd quarter gave TCU short fields and was the only reason that it was close for a little while. Once we got to the 4th quarter and I knew we could make them start on their 25 after we scored, I felt like we had the game won.
Defensively I'd say that we defintitely improved and we definitely have room for much more improvement. I was excited about seeing a couple of open field tackles that ended drives. I was not too excited about the dropped oskies. If Bookie makes that pick when we are up 28-7, he takes it to the house and I think TCU ( and their new QB ) would have been demoralized and the blowout would have started sooner.
Overall, it was a good win, another road win, and we still haven't lost back-to-back regular season games this millenia.
